On Monday 23rd April, a team made up of employees from local companies are attempting to sit on every seat in Southend United Football ground. There are nearly 12,000 seats so this is no easy challenge! They are doing it to raise awareness of positive mental health and how physical activities can help ease symptoms of anxiety and depression. Leading the event is South East and Central Essex Mind (SECE Mind), the leading mental health charity in this region who provide support for residents of South East and Central Essex including Southend and Chelmsford. The two companies which are joining SECE Mind are Arthur J. Gallagher and ENS Recruitment as well as their own staff and volunteers.
Kristina Stazaker, development manager of SECE Mind says “This event has never been attempted before to our knowledge and we wanted to do something unique and that would get us noticed in our community. We want to beat the blues and working with SUFC couldn’t be any more perfect for this! We are hoping to have at least 50 participants and we will beat the seats. Please give us your support and encouragement”.
The campaign will be announced on Saturdays’ match against Rotherham. Please donate £5 to help people in our region overcome their mental health issues. SECE Mind have been delivering mental health services in this region for over 50 years and provide supported housing, counselling, training and advice and signposting services. You can donate by either texting ‘BETS18 £5’ to 70070 or via their JustGiving page, justgiving.com/southeast-centralessexmind
