Mental Elf Fundraiser with LSA

This December, we joined efforts with our charity partner London Southend Airport to hold our annual ‘Mental Elf’ event on the airport runway.

The event helped raise awareness of mental health whilst raising vital funds for our charity and we are very happy to announce that LSA managed to reached their ambitious 10K fundraising target! A huge thank you to everyone involved.

The original target of £5,000 has been exceeded via the airport’s Just Giving page and with all funds to £5,000 match funded, over £10,000 will be donated to SECE Mind.

The event took place last week with over 50 members of the public joining airport employees in an attempt to complete 54 miles - the SECE Mind boundary around the South East and central Essex area - the total is now in and a staggering 393.16 miles were completed!

MP James Duddridge joined the runners on the runway,

“I would like to congratulate everyone who took part in the Mental Elf Event on Wednesday, clocking up a combined total of 393.16 miles! It certainly was a cold morning, but I soon warmed up after the first lap.

I am pleased to see London Southend Airport has now raised more than £5,000 for South East and Central Essex Mind - helping to support local people with their mental health.”

Caroline Grant, CEO, SECE Mind,

“The event was a huge success, and it was a truly unique experience to join participants on the runway to help raise awareness of mental health.

SECE Mind supports residents across Essex and the fundraising will make a huge difference to so many, from dedicated local projects such as Nelsons Gate to counselling sessions and awareness.”

Glyn Jones, CEO London Southend Airport,

“Thank you to all who took part, donated and of course our volunteers, without whom, the event couldn’t have taken place.

Our charity partnership with SECE Mind has offered valuable opportunities to raise awareness of mental health and the partnership has already delivered some fantastic campaigns for both airport employees and the community. We look forward to building on these successes in the new year”.
