YEAR 9 STUDENTS WIN £1,000 DONATION FOR SECE MIND

Congratulations to Sweyne Park School who held their second First Give School Final on Tuesday 2nd May. This very special event celebrated the inspirational work of the incredibly dedicated pupils of year 9. First Give works in partnership with secondary schools, encouraging young people to give their time, tenacity and talents to improve the quality of life of their local community.

As part of their CPRE lessons, the Sweyne Park students have been working in teams to research, and make contact with, local charities in order to produce a presentation about who they are and what they do. 14 teams took part, a total of 56 students, and each team was then invited to present their findings in the School Final and the winning team would see £1,000 donated to their chosen charity.

We were thrilled to be contacted a group of girls who had chosen us to be their charity of focus. They were incredibly hard working and passionate and represented the school brilliantly. They worked closely with Fundraising and Communications Manager, Kristina Stazaker who helped them to understand the work done by South East and Central Essex Mind and its impact on the community.

All of the final presentations were well put together, with every team showing vast levels of commitment and empathy for their subjects. However, we are delighted to announce that it was the team covering South East and Central Essex Mind that emerged victorious! Thanks to the hard work of these young ladies we received a donation of £1,000 that can now be put towards supporting people facing mental health issues in the local community.

“It really was a delight to mentor the girls,” said Kristina “this was about far more than grades for them and you could see that from the beginning, they understood that this is truly a battle for a great many people and they wanted to help any way they could. First Give is a great project in so many ways, not least because it gets young people thinking about the issues that affect everyone in their community.”

Congratulations to the members of Team Mind: Samah Abdul Jaleelm, Jessica Rich, Jessica Viner, Evie Wilkins, Katelyn Parker and Anna Wilson. We’d also like to congratulate the two runners up who won £250 for St. Luke’s Hospice and Little Havens respectively. Are you a teacher, headmaster or parent?
